We were just notified that one our houses, (we are trying to sell it) has just flooded from frozen pipes. I, fortuntely, have never had to file an insurance claim ever. Do we call ins. first, or do we get estimates caused by the damage or do we just start repairing? What role does the ins company play?

We are currently looking for home owners insurance for our new house (first house) and now I have a few questions:
1) What are the “important” questions to ask while getting a quote?
2) So far I received several quotes already and all of them vary quite a bit. What are the most important points I have to look at, so I can compare “Apples-to-Apples”.
3) The property is sold in the $600k range, but the “replacement value” on the quotes is usually in the $200k to $300k range. Is it normal for the replacement value be so much lower than the selling price?

Mine is 5%, which means, worse case scenario (storm blows my roof off and rains in my house or blows the whole house down) I could be paying around $22,500 out of pocket for contents and structure. I think this might be too much but was just wondering what everyone else had.

My home owners Insurance company is dropping us, next month what are our options?
by admin ~ February 28th, 2010spkmyer asked:
We are worried because it is now hurricane season and we need to get new home owners insurance. Are there any reasonable offers or options out there? Did the legislation that was passed by the Florida Senate and Charlie Crist protect me from being dropped? Please help, we are worried. We also are about to re-finace to avoid a variable rate in August.
