Should I file a home insurance claim again?
Carl G asked:
SO I filed a claim 3 or so months ago for my roof. The insurance paid 6K for the roof claim. Well, today I found my dishwasher has been leaking and now I have some subfloor/flooring damage – will it be a bad idea to file a claim for this? Could they drop me? I have Farmer’s insurance.

I can’t advise you either way, but just know that filing two claims in three months doesn’t look so good to any insurance company.
Your losses are recorded forever, and, insurance company Underwriters review your loss data to make important decisions (i.e. policy cancellations, renewals, applicable claims surcharges, etc). They review what’s called a C.L.U.E. report (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) which details everything. Any insurance company can pull one on you at anytime.
To sum this up, you may have to file a claim depending on how extensive the damage to your home is. Just note that the average personal only experiences 1 claim in 6-7 years, per Actuarial studies. You may be temporarily deemed as a red flag by your insurance company.
That’s a tough question. I think your rates would definitely go up after the second claim. It depends on your history with your insurance company. Why don’t you call them and explain your situation. They will advise you in the right direction
