Lemmur asked: a worker came to the front gate of my home and ignored the “Beware of Biting Dog” signs and happened to put his arm inside the gate and was bitten by my 100 pound dog.
if he sues, will my home insurance pay him or was it his fault?

only if its on your property
Depends what kind of dog and do they(meaning the insurance company) know you have the dog?
If they know you have the dog and are aware of the breed then they will cover a certain amount but it will depend on the situation. Most home owners policys do not cover Rotts, Pit bulls, Akitas, Or Dobermans there are a few other but those are the one I know for sure. Also NEVER use a beware of dog sign because people will take advantage of this sign. The sign means that you know you have a dog that will bite and someone can use this to their advantage. Good luck
I have had this happen. My insurance did pay for the ER visit. They said they would pay it this time but I had better do something about the dog. The best thing to do is ask your agent. Good Luck….
I think it depends on what kind of dog you have and if your insurance will cover it (pitbulls usually aren’t insurable), and I also have heard that if you put up signs like your “Beware of Biting Dog” you are saying that you know your dog bites and is dangerous and could get into more trouble. I am not 100% on that one but if anyone else knows anything about it please post it on here.
Yes, they can sue. You have a dog that you know is aggressive and yet you allowed access to that dog.
Imagine if that was a child? You could be in jail. Children often can’t read signs.
Are you keeping this dog outside all the time? Chainming dogs or leaving them out 24/7 makes an aggressive, mean dog.
Get your dog neutered, and see a trainer.
Because if you have any issues, you may not only get sued, you may get criminal charges.
no your home insurance will not cover it what kinda question is that wow lol
but if you have a beware of dog sign she entered or came up to close at her own risk you’ll be oh right she shouldn’t have been so stupid right? lol
If he’s inside ur property otherwise it comes out off ur pockets.
It was his fault, but if he takes you to court over it, you’ll lose. In general, there is no excuse whatsoever for a dog biting anyone who isn’t inside their home as an intruder. And even then, sometimes the intruder wins the lawsuit.
You’ll have to call your home owner’s insurance policy on this one, though – they’re all different. Some don’t insure against dog bites, and those who do usually charge an exhorbitant premium because dogs are so unpredictable.
Have you considered putting a muzzle on your dog when you put him out in your yard?
I’m assuming the dog lives in the house most of the time and is SENT out to do his duty in the yard. He should be TAKEN out on a leash and led to the spot where you want him to go, so that he doesn’t mess up your entire yard. And if you’re with him and he’s on a leash, he won’t be biting anyone.
If the worker reports you to the local animal control people, your dog may end up being put down or restricted to never being outside without a leash and a muzzle.
He was trespassing if he ignored the BEWARE of DOG sign……but your home owners insurance would pay if you have an amendment for that coverage.
He faulted himself by NOT heeding the posted warning sign…..to bad, so sad……for him!
Depends on what breed of dog you have – quite a few insurance companies exclude responsibility for certain breeds.
It depends on your insurance. Some companies will—some won’t. Some will cover unless it is a certain breed of dog. You’ll have to call them.
depends if on your property and your insurance. This is also not good telling people ahead of time you have an aggressive dog, if it isn’t confined correctly for agressive dogs you can have the dog taken and put to sleep. You are also twice as responsable for allowing an aggressive dog to be in contact withthe public with out a muzzle. REmmeber you are the one advertising you have an aggressive dog.
