We got hit by lightning and blew out a bunch of things. Since Directtv covered the cost of those replacements (yes, this is a plug – they deserve it), our total cost for replacing everything will be about $500 over our $1,000 deductible. We’re trying to determine if we’re better off eating the cost.

Our insurance office says we will have a claims surcharge of one point for three years. How do we figure out what that will be in real dollars?

But should she confirm what is causing the water first,before the adjuster comes out. I previously have $ 1000 deductible. However, my insurance agent recommend $500 deductible, and changed to $500 deductible. I don’t see a good reason. If I change it back to $1000 deductible I could save $27.50 for the yearly payment.
Is it better to change to $1000 deductible to save $27.50 per year or just leave it as changed.

Due to our winter weather my moms has sustained some roof water damage. Its leaking into her ceiling and she has to put bowls out to catch the dripping water. She doesnt want to call Farmers Insurance to make a claim because she fears her rates will go up. Is that true? She has never filed a claim before.
